My name is Lewis Mills, I am the co-owner of Assisi's Pet Care. I have a long history with animals having always had pets. In fact, I haven't known a single day without them.
My first dog was a beautiful Doberman called Bella who inspired my love for animals.
I was fortunate enough to work from an early age in a pet shop getting to know and understand different mammals, amphibians and reptiles. I learnt a great deal about handling techniques and it was here I encountered my first bites and scratches.
I attended the College of Animal Welfare to acquire my Veterinary Nursing qualification whilst simultaneously working at a Veterinary practice in Cuffley full time.
Veterinary Nursing involves numerous skills including radiography, laboratory investigation and anaesthesia.
My special interest in practice was rabbits and wildlife. I have been 'Daddy' to many fledglings with 'Schmoo' the collared dove being my greatest success.
I also attained a Dorwest Herbs qualification so am knowledgeable about herbal products from the Dorwest range.
I trained as a canine hydrotherapist in 2008 and I got to meet some very special animals that have endured so much but were finally getting well.
I love my work and enjoy meeting every one of the animals entrusted to my care and feel very lucky to be looking after your pet.
My name is Lisa Mills, I am also the co-owner of Assisi's Pet Care. I come from an animal loving background and have also always been around animals all of my life.
Pansy Pug is my first dog as all my previous pets were 'small furries'. I adore rats and have had the pleasure of owning several of them over the years.
Previous to starting Assisi's Pet Care I qualified and worked as a Veterinary Nurse. I trained at Oaklands college in my first year and at the College of Animal Welfare for my second year, both whilst working at a practice in Letchworth. I had my first taste of qualified nursing life in Smallford before moving to Cuffley vets as a Head Nurse. Whilst working there I trained further and attained a canine behaviour certificate and an animal behaviour diploma with a distinction.
After I left nursing I trained as a canine hydrotherapist and met some truly inspirational dogs and left the hydrotherapy centre to become a Mummy.
I love what I do and feel lucky that so many people trust me with their beloved pets.
Hi, my name is Jemma Sanders and I am the admin assistant and dog walker for Assisi's. I love all animals and have always had pets (currently I have a lovely if slightly eccentric Border collie called Ruby) but I have also had cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and fish.
I am a huge supporter of animal rights and I have volunteered for the RSPCA for two years and I was a volunteer receptionist at Rye Meads which is a RSPB reserve in Stanstead Abbotts for nine months. Prior to Assisi's I have also worked in pet shops, Paradise Wildlife Park and BBC Wildlife Magazine. My admin experience comes from previously mentioned volunteer and paid work posts.
Hi, my name is Micky, and like Lewis and Lisa I am totally crazy about animals. I have grown up in a household full of animals and am always happy in their company. I have had cats, some I would bring home without even asking my parents. At one time I had seven. I have had mice, rats, rabbits and guinea pigs. My wish now is for a goat, I love them. I have had various dogs throughout my life, always rescued ones where I have had the chance to make their lives happy. I had a rescue dog that was only a week old when I got her. I had to bottle feed her and I had her until I lost her at seventeen years old. It was one of the saddest days of my life. I even thought about never having a dog again because the pain was unbearable, but then I was asked to help rescue a dog that was being used in training dogs to fight. Ice was his name and he was a broken little guy, well actually he was a mountain dog, large in body but a wee baby inside. He needed me and I guess I needed him too, so back I came again in love with my animals. I worked with Ice and the vet for just over a year but sadly he was too broken and the vet gave the advice which I was dreading. Ice showed me so much love in that year and I will always be grateful to him, his little mind was just too damaged. Then I was offered a cheeky little dog called Turkish and he is a loveable rogue. He is so naughty but in such a cheeky way, I love him so much. He too was bottle fed as a pup as his mum rejected him. He is so much fun and all the dogs I welcome into my home have a really fun time with him. He is so handsome too, but he knows it and always gets attention when we are out.
I love my work with Lewis and Lisa (and of course little Leon) but I have to say the dogs and cats make my life complete. My young daughter wants to be a dog handler when she is older either in the police or the army. I think it is obvious Tilli would want to work with animals as she too loves them to bits. I look forward to meeting all your animals in the future and Turkish and Tilli agree too.
